Senior
Citizen Group at Northside Pool
Dear Pool staff and Parks & Rec,
I’m
disabled and have been using the Northside Pool for a few months now. I want to
thank the staff and the senior citizen group that is there when I’m there.
Everybody has been kind and helpful to my personal care attendant and I. Her
name is Paula.
I moved
to the ************* a few years ago. Since then I have had a difficult time
finding a pool that I could access. It seemed I had looked everywhere until
somebody from the Endependence Center told me Northside Pool had a zero-depth
entry pool. Before then, all the pools I had looked at had pool lifts as means
of access. With the YMCA’s refusal to refund my fee at my request because their
pool lift was always broken, I was done dealing with facilities that used pool
lifts.
After my
struggle it was such a delight and relief to come to Northside Pool and have no
problems what so ever. There is a pool wheelchair. There is a pool noodle that
I use to float on. There is a belt that keeps me in the pool wheelchair seat.
There is staff that helps my attendant get me into the water. All there without
me having to ask or teach people what my needs are. That is special to me.
Thank you! Please keep up the good work.
Sincerely,
Ivy K.
Responses/Results:
8/22/08: Daniel, the division head emailed back.
He thanked me for taking the time to say thank you and he was going to forward
it to the pool’s manager.
The senior citizens really appreciated my note.
